Arianna Huffington

Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington has been an Greek American columnist, author and businesswoman for over 20 years. She's written 15 books and is the cofounder the magazine The Huffington Post. Arianna Huffington is an independent liberal news outlet, is a television personality as well as a writer and an philanthropist. She emigrated from Greece to England aged 16 where she obtained a MA from Cambridge University in Economics. As the first foreign student to hold the position of president in the famous debating group The Cambridge Union, at 21 years old she took over the presidency. Being a conservative syndicated blog, after graduating she was able to be an influential voice for the Huffington Post. It was her celebrity that led to the recruitment of a number of prominent contributors to share their thoughts on news, politics and culture. Arianna gained fame in 2003 when she decided to contest independently for the California recall election to replace the then governor Davis. Apart from this she also led an Detroit project to promote fuel efficient cars. Forbes named her the most powerful female in the media industry in 2009. The newspaper was ranked as at 12th place on their list. The Guardian also included her to the top 100 list of media for 2009. AOL purchased The Huffington Post from AOL in 2011. Then she was appointed the head of AOL's media group. It was comprised of several AOL-owned brands, including Engadget AOL Style List and Patch Media. Elli Stasinopoulos was a daughter born to Konstantinos an advisor to management and a journalist. Even though she was close with father, her relationship with her mother shaped the rest of her life. When she was a teen, she showed leadership traits which she is still renowned for. Her move to England came at 16, to pursue her education and was accepted into Girton College Cambridge. In her time at college, she joined the college debating Society Cambridge Union where she became the first foreign and third female president. She graduated in 1972 with the degree of Master's in Economics. She worked as a critic as well as a host on TV and a columnist after her graduation. In addition, along with Bernard Levin she appeared on an episode of Face the music.
